Questions and answers
About PPSR.org
Who runs PPSR.org?
PPSR.org is an Australian business, ABN 48 634 361 649.
Do you sell other reports?
No. Only the PPSR check, one price, no upgrades.
Price and payment
How much does it cost?
$9.95 including GST, by rego or VIN. That's the whole price.
How can I pay?
Card (Visa, Mastercard or American Express), Apple Pay or Google Pay. Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
Do I need an account or a subscription?
No. You pay once for one check. There's nothing to sign up for, cancel or renew.
Do I get a tax invoice?
Yes. The email with your report is your tax invoice.
The check
Can I search by number plate?
Yes. Enter the rego and the state or territory it is registered in. We find the VIN for you.
Does it work for cars from any state?
Yes. The PPSR is one national register, so it covers cars from every state and territory.
What does the check show?
Whether finance is owing (a security interest registered by a lender), whether the car is recorded as written off, and whether the car, its engine or its plates are recorded as stolen. It also shows Takata airbag and factory recall status, and the car's details and rego expiry.
What doesn't it show?
How much is owing, who owns or has owned the car, the odometer reading, unpaid fines or tolls, service history, or accident damage that didn't lead to a write-off.
Do I get the official PPSR certificate?
Yes. Every report includes the official search certificate issued by the register, as a PDF, exactly as the register issues it. It is attached to your report email, and you can download it from your report page.
How long does it take?
Usually about a minute after you pay. You see the report on screen and get it by email. You can close the page while you wait.
What if the PPSR is down?
The PPSR closes for maintenance every Wednesday from 9:00 pm to 11:59 pm Canberra time. If you order then, we tell you before you pay, run your check after it reopens and email your report. If the PPSR has an unplanned outage, we tell you before you pay and run your check as soon as it is back.
When should I do the check?
On the day you buy, or the day before. Finance can be registered at any time.
What vehicles can I check?
Vehicles with a 17-character VIN. Rego searches work for vehicles registered in Australia.
What's a REVS check?
The old name for a check of a state register of cars with money owing. Those registers became the national PPSR in 2012, so a REVS check today is a PPSR check.
Reports and problems
What do I do if finance is owing?
Don't pay yet. Ask the seller to pay out the loan and have the security interest removed, and to show you written proof. Check it with the lender named on the certificate, then run a new check before you pay.
What if the car is recorded as stolen?
Stop and contact the police in the state shown. Don't pay for or take the car.
What if I entered the wrong rego or VIN?
You see the car before you pay. If it's not the car you're looking at, search again: nothing is charged until you pay. Please check the rego or VIN carefully, as a report for a car you entered by mistake can't be refunded.
Can I get a refund?
If there is an error while we make your report, you will be refunded. The Australian Consumer Law gives you rights that our policy does not limit.
I didn't get the email
Check your spam or junk folder for an email from reports@ppsr.org. If it isn't there, email support@ppsr.org with your order reference or the rego you searched, and we'll send it again.
Can I check lots of cars, or get a business account?
We sell single checks only. No accounts, packs or bulk pricing.
How do I contact you?
Email support@ppsr.org.
